With Frank Ocean having the courage to come out and admit that he is gay ( or bi) that made me think. What if more men, especially within the black community, came out instead of being on the DL (down low) about their sexuality?
I am heterosexual and it’s even hard dating when considered to be doing the ‘right’ thing. I can only imagine how it is being bisexual/homosexual, since people frown upon it. Whether it’s right or wrong is not my point.
My point is why don’t other men admit they are gay/bisexual instead of lying to women? Why lie about your sexuality, and potentially put someone’s life in danger? Men that are on the DL have sex with women AND men, but yet deny being gay or bi. Many women have been heartbroken and some have contracted HIV/AIDS because of this.
Regardless of your opinion about homosexuality, you have to respect Frank Ocean’s courage to admit that he is not the ‘norm’ and that he is different by being a homosexual, as some may say, and that takes a lot of courage.
One thing is for sure, more men need to do this. Instead of acting like you are into women only, admit that you like men also. Give women a FAIR chance. She may or may not date you, but at least you know that you were honest and you didn’t deceive anyone.
I hope that his ‘coming out’ causes more men to be honest, and give women a chance to decide who to love.
